Using the familiar souvenir object, this work explores nostalgia, industrialization, environmental change, and the ways photography transforms our relationship to place. The kitsch object of the snow globe became popularized during a time of industrialization, responding to a deep-seated need for connection with a disappearing natural world. As our modern landscapes continue to transform, I ask questions about what kinds of sites evoke nostalgia now. By trapping the modern-day industrial landscape in miniature, I attempt to gain power over it, even as these sites rest in a permanent nuclear winter.
