American Solastalgia explores how climate change is rapidly and irreversibly transforming what it means to live in the United States. The exhibition brings together artists whose work invites reflection on the complex feeling of “solastalgia”—the sense of loss and longing that individuals and communities experience when environmental change reshapes home beyond all recognition. Working across a diverse range of media, the work of these artists highlights American landscapes affected by both contemporary and historical ecological shifts, and raises urgent questions about extraction, stewardship, belonging, migration, and environmental justice. Equal parts grief and hope, American Solastalgia invites reflection and action, encouraging viewers to consider how climate change shapes our lives, homes, and communities and, further, to fashion for themselves a future they hope to inhabit.

The exhibition features works by contemporary American artists Hannah Chalew, Nancy Cohen, Kate Greene, Abbey Hepner, Nathalie Miebach, Cara Romero,  Jon Verney, and Joshua Villalobos. Guest curators: Charlotte Hecht and M. Stang.
